Spam Musibi (US)

  • 1 box of Spam
  • 4 cups of sushi rice
  • Nori yosma (fried yosma)
  • 4 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (optional)
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Cook the rice and let it cool.

Cut the spam into slices about 0,18 inch thick.

In a large skillet, fry the spam slices on both sides until golden brown.

In a separate bowl, mix the soy sauce, sugar and mirin. Pour this sauce over the fried spam slices and coat both sides with sauce.

Cut the nori slaw into four pieces.

Fill the spam musubi mold or similar shaping tool with rice, put a slice of spam on top and add another layer of rice. (If you don't have a musubi mold, you can shape the rice by hand.)

Wrap each pile of rice and spam with a piece of nori.

Optionally, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top of each musubi.

You can modify this recipe according to your own tastes. Some people may prefer to use teriyaki sauce or another sauce. You can also add extra ingredients to musubi – for example, a layer of egg omelet or a layer of fried vegetables.

ENJOY YOUR MEAL
