Taiyaki (Japan)
Taiyaki is a fish-shaped Japanese cake made from flour and filled with azuki sweet bean paste, often consumed as a snack. It is usually served hot and is available at most taiyaki stands at any winter festival in Japan. Most people believe this dessert originated in Tokyo during the Meiji era, but taiyaki became immensely popular in 1976 with the appearance of a beloved children's song, Oyoge!
The best taiyaki is said to be characterized by a crispy crust cooked to a golden brown color, and although there are many different flavors and varieties of taiyaki today, the basic taiyaki still remains a favourite.
