Shumai ( CHINA)

Literally translated as cooking and selling, Shumai is part of dim sum cuisine, consisting of an open-topped dough topped with steamed pork and sometimes finely chopped shrimp or Chinese black mushrooms. When cooked, shumai is often garnished with a single pea, a fish roe, or a small piece of carrot.

Cantonese originated in tea houses on the Silk Road in China, and since then the dish has spread around the world. In China, there are many regional variations of this delicious delicacy, but it is also very popular in Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.

In Indonesia, the dish is often accompanied by tofu, vegetable and peanut sauce; In the Philippines, it is accompanied by rice or various sauces; and in China, shumai is often served with har gow, another type of dumpling stuffed with shrimp, scallions, and bamboo shoots.
