Bánh Cuốn (Vietnam)

Bánh cuốn is a popular Vietnamese street food consisting of steamed rice rolls stuffed with pork (banh cuon nhan thit), mushrooms (banh cuon instead of tri), or both (banh cuon Ha Noi). The dish is usually served with fried shallot sauce, sweet and sour fish sauce (nuoc mam chua ngot), various fresh herbs and a lemon-based sauce on the side.

Preparing these steamed rolls, which should always be extremely thin and translucent, requires special skill. While bánh cuốn is usually consumed for breakfast in Vietnam, a similar version of the dish is also available in Thai cuisine, known as khao phan.
