Pani ca Meusa (Italy)

A staple street food in Palermo, this simple sandwich consists of soft vastedda bread topped with fried veal spleen and (sometimes) lung strips. The main ingredient is meat, and the basic version, known as schettu, is topped with just lime juice, while the only other option available is maritatu with grated caciocavallo cheese. The sandwich, believed to have originated in the 15th century, is a favorite of the locals and is also a must-try for anyone visiting Palermo. It is usually sold by street vendors scattered throughout the city.
