Mimi Udon (Japan)

Mimi udon is a Japanese noodle dish originating from Tochigi. Udon noodles are folded in the form of ears and are traditionally prepared for the New Year. These ears symbolize an evil god, and if someone eats your ears, bad luck will not have come to your family for the rest of the year, since the evil god will not be able to hear anything from your house.

The noodles are boiled until cooked with various ingredients such as miso slices, shiitake mushrooms, leeks, dried acorns, carrots and fresh greens before being served with broth and vegetables in a bowl.
