Empanadas Chilenas (Chile)
Most commonly, empanadas chilenas are made from wheat flour
dough stuffed with onions, minced meat, olives, raisins and boiled eggs. These
semicircular donuts are typically baked in the oven. Empanadas chilenas are
prepared and consumed throughout the year, but are especially popular during
Fiestas Patrias in September.
Beef is forbidden for religious reasons during the Easter
festivities, so these empanadas are often filled with cheese and seafood at
that time. It is recommended to pair Chilean empanadas with a glass of red
wine.
