Congri (CUBA)


  • 2 teaspoons of olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped green bell pepper
  • ½ cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 chopped medium white onion
  • 2 cloves of crushed garlic
  • 1 can of black beans
  • 1 cup long grain rice
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Oregano
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
 First, let's add the oil to the pan and heat it on medium heat. Add onions, peppers and garlic when the oil starts to heat up and saute for 4-5 minutes.

Then we can add rice, beans, water, bay leaves, black pepper and cumin. It is enough to cook, stirring occasionally, until the rice and beans appear. However, the resting phase is more important than cooking. Our rice will be ready when we cover the pot with foil and let it rest for 15 minutes.
